WHY BUY FROM ILLINOIS CORRECTIONAL INDUSTRIES?
PURCHASE WITHOUT COMPETITIVE BIDS
Illinois statute requires state agencies give ICI preference when procuring items manufactured by ICI (30 ILCS 500/) Illinois Procurement Code).
Under the State Purchasing Act and the Illinois Municipal Code, state agencies and many qualified local governments may purchase from Illinois Correctional Industries without obtaining competitive bids. Not-for-profit organizations also qualify.
All Industries' products may be purchased using a State of Illinois Order For Delivery (OFD) form. Download forms from "How to order ICI products".
NO TAX DOLLARS SPENT
Illinois Correctional Industries operations are not supported by tax

from the sale of its products and services.

INMATE REHABILITATION
ICI offers the opportunity for self-rehabilitation to
990 adult inmates. These men and women are voluntarily employed in
meaningful work situations that aid in developing useable skills and
positive work habits. It is through the development of these work habits
that inmates prepare themselves for the challenges of post-release employment.
To qualify as an ICI worker, inmates must demonstrate good disciplinary
status; have at least a GED; not be an escape risk; have received a
positive review by Internal Affairs; and meet the facility time standard
on time left on sentence. Inmates with life sentences are not employed
by ICI.
