Nancy King | State Procurement Officer
Nancy King has once again been named state procurement officer by the Executive Ethics Commission on July 1, 2010. King will continue to be responsible for procurement oversight of the Illinois Department of Corrections, Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice and Illinois Prisoner Review Board. She has served as the state procurement officer for these agencies since 2005.
King joined the Illinois Department of Corrections in 1972, working in areas that include Educational Services of the Juvenile Division, the Office of the Chief of Administration, the Director’s Office, and the Office of Field Support, where she developed, revised, and implemented new and current business office procedures, fiscal processes and related systems. Later as a business administrator for the General Office and Field Services, she managed procurement of contractual services and coordinated appropriate bidding practices of contracts and leases of equipment and property through the Central Management Services. King went on to serve in Field Support and Special Projects, providing advisory functions relative to internal business office procedures. She also coordinated special projects and cost saving initiatives.
King completed coursework at Lincoln Land Community College, the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing and the Illinois Association of Public Procurement Officials.
Scope of Responsibilities
The state procurement officer reports directly to the chief procurement officer in association with the Executive Ethics Commission. The main duty of the state procurement officer is to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations as provided under Illinois Procurement Code and as advised by the Procurement Policy Board. The state procurement officer has general oversight over all agency procurement activities and interacts with the executive staff at the agency(s) that she/he represents in order to give procurement oversight to all initiatives
